Welcome to Liping’s Deep Learning Garden! Liping is an assistant professor of geographic information science (GIScience) and Computer Science, with a research focus on geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) at the University of New Mexico (UNM).
Prior to UNM, Liping was a postdoctoral research associate in the Information Sciences group (CCS3) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), focusing on computer vision and machine learning algorithm development for technical diagram analysis. Before joining LANL, Liping was a postdoc researcher in the GeoVISTA Center & the Institute for CyberScience at Penn State University, with foci on GIScience and Data Science — specifically, big geospatial data mining using machine and deep learning, plus geovisualization. Liping is passionate about data-driven and big data analytics research, and is an efficient, hard-working, self-motivated researcher and programmer, and a great team player.

The four favorite things she has been enjoying doing every day:
- Programming — communicating with her computer(s), from laptops to servers to HPC clusters, in different languages;
- Writing — communicating with her (academic + tech) readers on paper and/or on computer screens;
- Reading — communicating with her (academic + tech) writers;
- Thinking — communicating with her mind and experience and observations to seek and discover solutions to her research questions…
